Between Light and Corridor

Residential Design by Ming Kai Hsu

After digging deeper into the client's preferences, living habits, and ideas of living, designer Ming Kai Hsu has transformed this 30-year-old house into a modern and technologically advanced space. By incorporating S-shaped curves, wooden materials, and natural light, Hsu has created a lively and exquisite residence that addresses the previous inconveniences of the occupants.

Hsu's design stands out with its unique approach to improving the functionality of the space. One notable feature is the addition of an S-shaped cabinet between the living room and dining room, effectively separating the two areas while maintaining a cohesive flow. The loop pattern arrangement further enhances the visual appeal of this design element.

The corridor leading to the bedroom showcases Hsu's innovative thinking. By incorporating a dimmer, the designer has created a versatile ambiance that can be adjusted according to the resident's preferences. This thoughtful approach to lighting adds a touch of technology to the space.

The materials used in the realization of this design are carefully selected to enhance the overall aesthetic. Solid wood grilles, steel brushed veneer, oak floors, granite, LED linear lights, baking varnish glass, imported tiles, FRP embedded bathtubs, amber mirrors, and emulsion painting all contribute to the luxurious yet modern feel of the residence.

With a total area of approximately 99.174 square meters, the house features three bedrooms, two living rooms, an entryway, a dining room, a kitchen, a bedroom, and a dressing room. The layout has been carefully planned to maximize the functionality and comfort of the space.

Key tags for this design include modernity, technology, affordable luxury, LED linear lights, wood grating, S-shaped curves, loop patterns, and refurbishment. It is evident that Hsu's design is a result of meticulous research and attention to detail.

Throughout the project, Hsu faced various challenges. In addition to addressing the client's preferences and living habits, the designer had to overcome the issue of noise interference from upstairs. By installing sound insulation foam on the floor, Hsu successfully created a more comfortable and undisturbed living environment for the client.

The "Between Light and Corridor" design project was completed in December 2019 in Taipei City, Taiwan. It is a testament to Hsu's creativity and ability to transform a dated space into a modern and technologically advanced residence.

This design has received recognition for its excellence. It was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category in 2021. This prestigious award is bestowed upon designs that demonstrate outstanding creativity, resourcefulness, and technical skills while contributing to quality of life improvements.
